And now that the awardage has finished and the night is wrapping up, I present to you my responses to the night's festivities:

Best Acceptance Speech

Winner: Mo'Nique for Best Supporting Actress

Runner-Up: Meryl Streep for Best Actress (Comedy)

One thing I've learned from the host of Mo'Nique speeches is that the woman has one riveting and powerful voice. She brought the viewing audience to tears within minutes of the show beginning, and her individual assessments of each cast and crew member at her table brought each one of them to tears as well. And Meryl's ode to her mother (and to the "do everything you can" attitude) was a breath of fresh air (and no surprise whatsoever).

Most Confusing Win:

Winner: The Hangover for Best Picture (Comedy)

Why oh why did this movie win when every other movie in the category (It's Complicated, Julie & Julia, (500) Days of Summer, and Nine) were exceedingly superior to it? I still am at a loss for why this movie got the attention it's gotten. It's perfectly harmless, to be sure, but it's barely funny and certainly not the best comedy of the year.

Biggest Surprise

Tied: James Cameron for Best Director

and Robert Downey, Jr. for Best Actor (Comedy)

I thought Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker) had this one in the bag, but her ex-husband Mr. Cameron came in and swept it up for Avatar. And as for the Lead Actor in a Comedy Film category, the bloggers seemed to be opting for Joseph Gordon-Levitt ((500) Days of Summer) and I had my money on the one-time front-runner Matt Damon (The Informant!), but it was Mr. Downey, Jr. who took it for Sherlock Holmes and gave a killer speech.

Most Endearing Star

Winner: Sofia Vergara

When the Modern Family vixen was asked what she thought about the rain, the umbrella-less Vergara made a cute comment about how they weren't M&Ms, so they'd survive the rain, and then proceeded to shrug off her gown getting a little wet. And all smiles the whole time.

Best Quote of the Night

Winner: With Julia Roberts, Tom Hanks, and Rita Wilson

Starting off with their red carpet antics, including my favorite quote of the night (The crew disses NBC for a bit, and, when super awkward red carpet interviewer Billy Bush attempts to pass the torch on to his co-host... "Natalie, take it away." Ms. Roberts replies loudly and somewhat disgustedly, "Who's Natalie?!" Hilarious.) the bunch of thesps took to their tables and seemed to be having loads of fun throughout the telecast (sauced?).

Best Quote in My Living Room

Winner: My friend, Bailey

When my 23-year-old friend saw 64-year-old Helen Mirren walk out to present something, she said the following: "I want to trade bodies with her. Seriously."
